GOALIE TIPS

9. Measuring for Goalie Pads

Too often I see goalies with pads that aren't properly fitted for them.

When the pads are too small, the knee is left exposed. This can be dangerous when the goalie goes down to make a save.

When pads are too big, a goalie's movement is restricted. It may look like the pads are covering more of the net, but the goalie will be unable to move as effective as they may need to make saves.

A good way to get an estimate of the size of goalie pads you will need is to measure your goalies leg. It is a three step process that will require a measuring tape.

1. Measure from the top of the foot to the centre of the kneecap

2. Measure from the centre of the kneecap to halfway up the thigh

3. then add the goalies skate size to the other 2 measurements

Different brands will run slightly different in sizes, so you will need to try them on before buying.
