Summer Goalie Camp
Since 2006, The NetWorks Summer Goalie Camp has developed goaltenders who want to take their game to the next level.
The camp begins with specialized
goaltender power skating.
The focus is
on lateral movement, depth control and
conditionning.
As the camp progresses the class will move
on
to drills that enhance mobility,
agility, reflexes, confidence and
all special techniques (e.g butterfly, half pad
save, post coverage, game situations, etc.)
Students will get lots of shots to help them in their pursuit of becoming a better goaltender. Shots are specific to the skills in which we work on in each session. They will be provided with thorough feedback, and staff support resulting from a 4:1 ratio of goalies to instructors, and 1-2 shooters per net.
Our selection of drills will encompass a variety of game situations. These drills are effective in developing good goaltending habits and in-game decision making. A controlled environment such as the one offered by NetWorks Goalie Academy gives the student the practice he/she needs, and the support that they deserve.
Goalies will be on the ice 2 hours per day. They will also have 1 hour of dryland training. The dryland session will consist of cardiovascular training, circuit training, plyometrics, "Goaler One" lateral slide training, balance and agility. Our knowledgeable off-ice coordinator, along with assigned group coaches will assist the students in their efforts.
In addition an hour long Yoga class has become a favourite of our students. Yoga combines mental focus along with balance and coordination. Many professional goaltenders now incorperate Yoga into their training.
Students will be grouped according to age and/or skill level.
Maximum: 3 goalies per net
The Goalie Cage
Newfoundland and Labrador's only synthetic ice training system.
We offer 1 on 1 private lessons for goaltenders of all ages. Synthetic ice increases reaction time and improving overall skills. Goalies can benefit from this quality training time that is not always offered in traditional ice rinks.
Synthetic ice has ice-like response in just about every way. You skate on it just like normal ice and you can perform all the strides and the slides you would on regular ice. Synthetic ice creates more friction, so skating is a bit more difficult and requires proper fundamental skating technique, but this is an excellent attribute for conditioning and learning proper skills. Sliding is also more difficult because of the friction, so again, synthetic ice training will make you push harder into slides and into lateral movement making it superb for conditioning and practice. At The Goalie Cage, we practice many of the same skills and drills that we would do on real ice and we get the same, if not better results! Training on synthetic ice and then going onto real ice is an advantage because it makes real ice that much easier to work with.
Team/Private Lessons
The staff at NetWorks Goalie Academy are available for team appointments. If you are a coach or parent who is looking to have a goalie coach come attend your practice, contact us. Our staff will work with your goaltenders and provide feedback as required. Our staff are capable of working with goaltenders of any age or ability level.
We also offer specialized goalie clinics for minor hockey associations. Contact program coordinator Curtis Thorne for more information.
Fall/Winter Develpment Program
During the hockey season we offer once weekly programs that supplement the regular season schedule.
We currently have two 10 week programs starting in October and January.
As with all NetWorks on-ice programs, small class sizes, dedicated teacher-student ratios, and Boni puck shooting machine training are a part of the program.
We combined power skating, positionning and save selection drills that help to fine tune your game.
