Eagles and Caps Claim Titles

from tricom.sport.ca
An overtime shoot-out goal by Kyle Rumsey was the difference as
the Northeast Eagles claimed the Tri-Com Atom Division II
Championship with a 4-3 victory over the CBR Renegades at Jack Byrne
Arena on Monday night. The Eagles took the best of three series in
two straight games.
CBR opened the scoring in the first on a goal by Brent Eason . The
Eagles gained the lead on goals by Dylan Critchon and Gavin Connors,
but the Renegades responded with two unanswered goals of their own
by Dominic Nugent and Joshua Hopkins to regain the lead. That lead
only lasted about a minute as a result of a tally by Cole Hillier
for the Eagles tied the game and by this time it was becoming
apparent that a shoot out was looming. The Eagles tried to score
late in the 3rd frame but were denied by the Renegade defence and
goaltending of Nicholas O'Brien.
The Eagles goaltending tandem of
Coady
Dalton and Braden Kean were also up to the
task. In the shootout only Rumsey's deke move produced any scoring
between the two competitive teams.
At Twin Rinks, the St. John's Caps claimed the Peewee Division I
title in convincing fashion, defeating the Mount Pearl Blades 8-0 in
the third and deciding game of the series. Cody Power and Daniel
Rice popped a pair each for the Caps, while single tallies came from
Kyle McGrath, Dylan MacKenzie, and Stephen Mallard. MacKenzie was
the real set-up artist in the game, recording three assists on the
night.
Evan Fitzpatrick earned a Stomp Goalie Award from Sports Shack for
his shut-out performance.
Best of luck in the playoffs to all our goalies!
