1) Y Drill
- a game situation much similar to the reactions used in a breakaway
- Challenge aggressively, begin retreating to react into a sliding
butterfly to one side (much similar to the previous drill) Repeat.
alternate sides. 3-4 times per goalie.
- Start on the left post, t-push diagonally to top of the crease on
the right side
- t-push across the top of the crease to the left side parallel to
the top of the crease
- T-push back to the right post. Repeat in the opposite direction
- 3-4 times per goalies make sure goalie is square on all angles to a
would-be shooter
- Start at the edge of the red painted line on the crease (by either
post)
- Shuffle continuously across the top of the crease to the other post
- make sure feet are always touching the red line, making the C
formation
- 3-4 times per goalie, ensure good stick discipline
| 4) 4 Puck Drill This
drill works on the goaltenders movement within the crease in
addition to listening skills and focus on pucks behind the net.
-Place 4 pucks behind
the net as shown, assign each of them a number.
-The goalie, in their
set stance listens for the coach to call out any number from 1
to 4
-The goalie will
position themselves according to the puck that is called using
good post-to-post shuffles
-The goalie must make
eye contact with each puck called, continue calling different
numbers out in any order for 15-20 seconds
Variation: After
15-20 seconds, command "shot" and have the goalie challenge out
to the top of crease for a quick shot from the slot.
